About MegaSuperSoft ​

We're a small, independent software studio based in Wellington, New Zealand. We build tools that respect your time, your privacy, and your right to own your data. We also build things for other people — full-stack development, product design, AI integration, and content production, either on a monthly retainer or scoped to a single project.

What we believe ​

Your data is yours ​

Every piece of software we ship is local-first. Your files live on your machine — not on our servers, not in our databases. We think this is how software should work. If a company disappears tomorrow, your data shouldn't disappear with it. We don't collect telemetry, we don't track usage, and we don't sell data. There's no asterisk on any of that.

Simple is better ​

We don't ship features for the sake of shipping features. Every button, every screen, every interaction has to earn its place. Software should get out of your way and let you do what you came to do. We'd rather cut a feature than ship one that's half-baked or confusing. Complexity is easy. Simplicity takes work.

Build in the open ​

Our applications are open source. You can read the code, audit it, fork it, or contribute to it. Transparency isn't a marketing strategy — it's how we hold ourselves accountable. When something breaks, you can see why. When we make a design decision, you can see the trade-offs.

Made for people, not metrics ​

We don't track engagement. We don't optimise for time-on-app. We don't send push notifications to drag you back. We build software that's useful when you need it and invisible when you don't. Our incentive is to make something good enough that you choose to keep using it — not to manipulate you into doing so.

What we build ​

Software ​

  • BruceOS — A custom-built operating system for coders, content creators, and gamers. Built on Fedora with curated software and sane defaults.
  • FFFFinance — Local-first personal finance for New Zealand. Bank-connected via Akahu, AI-powered with local LLM inference, 20+ themes, and 19 dashboard panels.
  • Ghosted — Code, terminal, knowledge graph, agent canvas, kanban, and files. One window, everything mounted.
  • Astral Travel — GPU-accelerated remote desktop connections. Connect to any machine from anywhere.
  • NodeUI — Build node graphs, flowcharts, diagrams and share. Runs in the browser, no installs, no accounts.
  • OpenComp — Open-source image compositor for VFX artists. Node-based compositing without the complexity tax. Currently in development.

Games ​

  • NeverEverland — A voxel editor. Build, sculpt, and explore voxel worlds.

What we do for others ​

We're available for hire. We work with startups, agencies, and established companies who need a full-stack team without the overhead of hiring one. Our work spans:

  • Full-stack development — React, Next.js, Vue, Node, Python, PHP, Three.js, Electron, Cloudflare Workers.
  • UI/UX and product design — Design systems, component libraries, Figma-to-code production builds, responsive and accessible interfaces.
  • AI integration — Commercial and open-source models (Anthropic, OpenAI, Llama, Qwen, Kimi), agent routing and orchestration, agentic workflows, custom n8n automations, ComfyUI pipelines for image and video generation.
  • Content and digital media — Motion graphics, video content creation, app promo videos, marketing assets, and data visualisation.

We work on a monthly retainer or per-project basis. No subcontracting, no handoffs. More details on our hire page.

Where we are ​

Wellington, New Zealand. UTC+12. We're async-friendly and overlap with US and EU mornings. Most of our communication happens over email, Linear, and GitHub. We don't do unnecessary meetings.
